1 Km AIR
Frankfurter Allee 7
Berlin, Germany, 2000
In a former, abandoned shop facing the gorgeous East German Frankfurter Allee in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district, three tubular plastic volumes, each 300 metres long and 26 cm in diameter, are inflated inside the empty space. It is impossible to predict how the 200 m³ of air will occupy the room, or how far it will extend. Random configurations, also caused by the movements of visitors, determine the distribution of this volume of air. The increased difficulty of accessing the space caused by the new volume is intended to challenge visitors to move it in order to create a passage for themselves and find a place to settle down.
