A joint project of Kate Moore, The Stolz, LeineRoebana and Plastique Fantastique.
A collaborative project by Kate Moore, The Stolz, LeineRoebana and Plastique Fantastique, conceived by Oerol Festival artistic director Kees Lesuis as an experiment in bringing together dance, music, architecture and the natural environment.
Set in the Formerum forest on the island of Terschelling, LOUD SHADOWS | LIQUID EVENTS is a site-specific performance landscape composed of four interconnected stages. Each element was choreographed in response to the topography and the precise position of the trees, allowing the architecture to emerge from and become part of its surroundings.
A transparent sphere pierced by a tree forms the first stage, while a milky, translucent volume is compressed between branches and illuminated by their shadows. A ring loops around pine and oak trees, connecting the first two stages and suspending a third in the void between them. The fourth stage is the forest itself.
Monumental yet delicate, opaque yet transparent, the installation blurs the boundaries between architecture, performance, audience and nature. Visitors are free to move between the different stages, creating their own perspectives and experiences. Meanwhile, dancers, musicians and the surrounding environment perform simultaneously: birdsong, rustling leaves, wind and rain become part of Kate Moore's composition, making every performance unique.
The result is an immersive landscape in which architecture, music, dance and the environment merge to challenge our perception.
